Year 5/6 Student Websites

Weebly for education

It has been wonderful to see your websites developing. Many of you have already included samples of your learning as well as some entertaining interests, events and hobbies pages. Remember to keep a balance between written and picture content and maintain a focus on the sharing of your learning, with family and peers as your audience.

Much of your website development will continue now in your classroom so remember to edit carefully and consider the learning areas you may not have addressed. You would have a number of saved writing pieces and other documents saved in your online folder- these can be uploaded to your website where relevant. You might also like to add a digital art piece and your Certificate from Code Studio!!

Next term in about Week Five, I will contact the people at Weebly so they can forward your website link to your email. These websites will not be for public viewing- only those with whom you share the link will be able to view your website.

Good luck and enjoy this celebration of your learning.

WEEBLY INFORMATION- an online learning space

ONLINE LEARNING SPACE- ACCEPTABLE USE INFORMATION

The Year 5/6 Student Digital Portfolios will be constructed using WEEBLY- an online website ‘builder.’

In creating a web space, the students will need to ensure that their Digital Portfolio –

  • is password protected and shared only to family members of the student
  • does not name or contain private and personal information about themselves or other students
  • use images of other students within St Damian’s Photo Permission Policy
  • adheres to copyright procedures
  • highlights the student’s Learning Journey

All students are encouraged to read and follow the above information. Positive ‘Digital Citizenship’ is an important aspect of web design and all students are encouraged to adhere to safe practices when creating their Digital Portfolio.

Your website pages should include examples of your learning such as:

  • Learning goals and dreams for the future
  • Religious education learning
  • Mathematical learning
  • Literacy learning
  • Learning reflections
  • Special event reports (e.g. Fire carriers, Confirmation, Excursions)
  • School sporting events/Interschool sport

Literacy using a class blog

This text (which is in our library) has been used to guide the discussion of how important it is to keep our personal details private when online. This text could be re-visited with the students as shared reading to keep the message alive!

100 People

100 people

The 100 People Project encourages teachers to “open up the walls” of their classroom and introduce students to people all over the world. By using the videos, curricula and statistics you will have a chance to begin a dynamic and engaging conversation about global issues, culture and more.

Wordle

Wordle is a great tool for the early exploration of vocabulary relating to a theme or idea. The students of Years 3-6 have used Wordle for the brainstorming of words which were saved as lists into their personal folders. (This is an important step because occasionally, word lists can be lost for varying reasons including issues with the site and computer capability). Once the word lists have been saved, the students can then decide which are key words and the words which are of lesser importance to the theme or idea. Key or important words are entered multiple times to show their importance in the Wordle. A really good whole class Tuning In activity and useful as an individual or collaborative tool!

Encourage students to use the ‘Snipping Tool’ to save the finished document to their personal folder for sharing purposes, rather than printing each Wordle.
